Nigel Zane welcomed Sugar and Spice of the Mighty Mights to the WOW Official Podcast livestream to chat about all things wrestling! Sugar and Spice recently competed in a first-of-its-kind 10 Way Elimination match alongside Tormenta, Gabriella Cruz, and Lil J-Boogie. This match meant a lot more to Sugar and Spice than simply going head to head with five members of The Alliance, however, it symbolized the progress WOW has made within women’s professional wrestling.
Spice on the 10 Way Elimination Match: “We built up to that moment so much tension that right when we got into the ring, we all had the same idea. We were all just putting everything on the line… I look back on that match and it just feels surreal.”
The two tiny, but mighty, superheroes also talked a bit about how they started their wrestling careers. Sugar fell in love with the universal language that is wrestling; finding hope and community with the larger than life icons she watched on TV. Sugar also holds pro wrestling close to her heart because it’s something that still connects her to her dad now that he’s passed on. Spice adds that wrestling allows the viewer to be taken out of their reality, and also shares a love of wrestling with her father.
The Mighty Mights both started training at the Jesse Hernandez School of Hard Knocks at the same time! Spice went on the wrestle in Mexico and gained experience before Jesse himself suggested joining the WOW roster. Sugar started wrestling after her father was diagnosed with cancer and joined the Brian Kendrick school before moving to Jesse Hernandez’s ring. Jesse Hernandez has been a friend of WOW for over 26 years, serving as a referee during some of WOW’s earlier days.
Sugar on: “I was the only female at Brian Kendrick’s school of pro wrestling. To this day, I’m the only female graduate of his academy.”
Sugar on her history with Spice: “When you know somebody like that, it’s really what makes the Mighty Mights special, it’s not just the balance of Sugar and Spice or the friendly competition, but really enhancing each other and being able to give ourselves permission to try things and validate watch other as we try it. Sometimes the world doesn’t always offer that when you’re at our stature.”

Spice on Sugar’s support while juggling wrestling and graduate school: “Sugar was tremendously helpful in those times that everything felt so heavy like I couldn’t do it. She always was like ‘no girl you can do it and you can do more.’”
Spice on the WOW locker room: “You see a lot of friends but they don’t last… and yes it’s special because WOW is a real sisterhood. Like people just want the best for you!? I just wanted to give a special, intentional shout out to the space and environment that WOW provides.”
Spice on Sugar’s candy habits: “Sugar actually gets sugar rushes. I think we might have to sneak a little starburst in there during a match or something.”
