Roman Reigns & Jey Uso Shock SummerSlam Fans by Opening the Show With Victory Over Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed

SummerSlam 2025 began in unexpected fashion when Roman Reigns’ music hit first to open the show. For a man who has spent the last few years cemented in main event status, seeing Reigns walk alone to the ring in the night’s first match turned heads immediately. Joined by Jey Uso, the two prepared for a hard-hitting battle against the powerhouse duo of Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed.

The crowd buzzed with anticipation, and it wasn’t long before the action exploded. Jey Uso started the match, but it quickly became a one-sided affair. The Brons—Breakker and Reed—dominated Jey for most of the match with punishing offense. Reed’s brute strength and Breakker’s explosive athleticism kept Jey grounded and isolated from Reigns.

After enduring a long beatdown, Jey finally fought back and made the critical tag to Roman Reigns. The tide turned the moment Reigns entered. With his signature intensity, he cleaned house and delivered a massive spear that sent Bronson Reed crashing through the barricade at ringside.

Reigns then helped set up a 1-D with Jey on Reed, nearly scoring the victory. Just before the referee’s hand hit three, Bron Breakker charged in to break up the count, keeping the match alive. Moments later, as Breakker went for a spear, Reigns intervened and saved Jey from disaster. With a window of opportunity open, Jey hit a superkick on Reed and followed it up with the Uso Splash to seal the victory for his team.

A Statement Made

While Reigns and Uso’s win was impressive, the real story may be that they opened the show at all. Roman Reigns has been the face of WWE’s main event scene since 2020. To see him kick off the biggest party of the summer could signal a shift in the way WWE is booking its top stars or may simply be a sign of confidence in the rest of the card.

Regardless of the reasoning, the opening match delivered. The chemistry between Reigns and Uso continues to evolve post-Bloodline, and their win against two of WWE’s most physically imposing competitors showed they’re still a dominant force.
